Ukraine Reports Fatalities in Russian Strike

(MENAFN) Ukraine reported Monday that a deadly overnight Russian aerial assault claimed at least two lives and wounded three others in the capital Kyiv, with a medical center bearing the brunt of the attack.

The Ukrainian State Emergency Service disclosed via Telegram that a four-story healthcare facility in Kyiv's Obolonskyi district sustained a direct hit, igniting a blaze that emergency crews subsequently extinguished.

"During the inspection of the premises, a human body was discovered. Twenty-five people were evacuated, three people were injured," the statement added.

Regional governor Mykola Kalashnik verified additional strikes targeting critical power infrastructure, leaving Slavutych city temporarily without electricity.

"Almost 8,500 families are without electricity. Energy workers are already working on restoration," he said.

Kalashnik earlier confirmed a fatality in the region's Fastiv district resulting from the bombardment.

Prior to impact, the Kyiv City Military Administration detected incoming drone formations approaching the Ukrainian capital, instructing civilians to seek immediate shelter.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy leveraged US social media platform X to emphasize defense needs following the attack, stating: "It is crucial that our partners never forget: air defense is needed every day; funding for the production of interceptor drones is needed every day; equipment for the energy sector is needed every day."

Zelenskyy pledged upcoming coordination with European and American allies to "ensure that Ukraine has the assistance it needs."

Ukraine's Air Force separately reported intercepting 137 of 165 Russian-launched drones during the nighttime operation.

Moscow has not addressed Kyiv's allegations, though Russia's Defense Ministry accused Ukraine of deploying 44 drones targeting Russian territory between 8 pm local time Sunday and 7 am Monday morning. It claimed nine drones were neutralized over the Russian capital and surrounding Moscow region.
