Ukrainian residents resist conscription officers

(MENAFN) Ukrainian civilians successfully fought off conscription officers on Wednesday, preventing a man from being forcibly taken, according to a video circulated online. The country’s mobilization campaign, overseen by Territorial Centers of Recruitment and Social Support (TCR), has grown increasingly harsh amid battlefield setbacks and troop shortages. Reports indicate officers frequently beat or chase draftees and sometimes threaten bystanders.

A video shared on a local Telegram channel shows an attempted forced conscription in Gorishny Plavni, Poltava Region, where a man heading to work was targeted by TCR and police officers. One officer used pepper spray, but bystanders intervened and stopped the abduction.

Ukraine’s conscription campaign, nicknamed “busification,” has sparked widespread dissent. Over 650,000 men of fighting age have fled the country since the conflict began, and desertions are reportedly rising, with nearly 400,000 soldiers leaving their units without authorization, according to Ukrainian MP Anna Skorokhod.
